Genre Research

These are the slides of a PowerPoint project my group and I did at the beginning of the year. The project was on movie genre and the genre that we were assigned was war. To be honest, I was kind of disappointed when I found out that our genre was war because I never really watched to many movies with that genre and I was hoping for a genre that I was more familiar with such as horror or comedy. Even though I wasn’t thrilled with my genre, I stilled learned a lot with this project. I learned how the lighting of a scene can help to establish the tone and genre of the movie. I also learned that certain genres have specific types of camera shots, angles, and movements that commonly used throughout movies within that category. For war, many times the camera is held close to the ground and uses low angles paired with shaky handheld movements to allow the audience to feel as if they were in the scene. Movies with the genre of war also have similar elements of characters, story lines, and setting.
